abrió sus puertas en la ciudad de Valencia (España) en 1988 y desde sus inicios mantuvo una actitud inconformista con la moda imperante en el panorama artístico español.
A finales de los ochenta el “arte contemporáneo oficial” en España estaba aún influido por la estética informalista surgida a mediados de los años sesenta. Desde nuestro punto de vista esta visión artística estaba ya superada. La Galería intuyó que era el momento de volver hacia una nueva pintura, reflexionar y recuperar algunos conceptos que habían quedado un poco olvidados, tanto en los maestros europeos como en los maestros americanos de la década de los cuarenta.
De aquí surgió un grupo de artistas que comenzaron a trabajar y a crear una estética que sorprendió a los críticos de principios de los noventa. Esta actitud provocadora fue la que nos inspiró el nombre de “Lolita”, en clara referencia a la conocida novela de Nabokov. My Name's Lolita Art fue creciendo y en 1996 abrió otro espacio en Madrid. Desde este momento algunos de los artistas que representa la Galería han comenzado a tomar serias posiciones dentro del panorama artístico español y europeo.

My Name’s Lolita Art opened to the public in the city of Valencia (Spain) en 1988 and ever since then has maintained an non-conforming attitude toward the mainstream Spanish artistic panorama.
In the late 1980’s, “Official contemporary art” in Spain was still heavily influenced by the informalist aesthetic that had emerged in the mid-1960’s. From our point of view, this artistic outlook was a thing of the past. The gallery had the feeling that it was time to turn to a new painting, to reflect upon and bring back some of the concepts that had been set aside, from both European and American masters of the 1940’s.
A group of artists came about in this way who started to work to create a new aesthetic that surprised the critics in the early 1990’s. This provocative attitude was the inspiration for the name “Lolita” for the gallery, in clear reference to the well-known novel by Nabokov. Galería My Name’s Lolita Art continued to grow and in 1996 opened a second space, in Madrid. Since then, some of the artists represented by the gallery have started to hold a significant position with the Spanish and European art scenes.
